Overview

The Custodial Technician Training Certification program covers the basics of janitorial daily cleaning in six modules as set out by the Cleaning Management Institute and ISSA. The certificate is a relatively new offering that aims to raise industry sanitation standards. Many well-known institutions require all their custodians to complete certification upon employment. Examples of these are; The University of Tennessee, The Smithsonian Institute, John Hopkins's Hospital, and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The course also includes soft skills training and job development support. Soft skills are covered during class time and include; teamwork, personality strengths, communication, networking, problem-solving, professionalism, organizing, and planning. Job development occurs during weekly one-hour individual meetings. Instructors use a needs-based approach and cover topics such as; resume and cover letter writing, job search skills, interview preparation, and job fairs.
